Multiple monitors and productivity

There's a post over on Slashdot on the subject of multiple monitors increasing the productivity of developers.

The post begins with this [emphasis added by me]:

An systematic study conducted by NEC-Mitsubishi, ATI Technologies and the University of Utah has concluded that the use of multiple monitors in the workplace increases productivity.

That's cool.

I also heard that there was a study put out by DOW and Johnson and Johnson saying that agent orange is safe to use as an infant gargle.

I heard that a study by the USDA concluded that eating red meat made you 10 times more likely to win the lottery. AND made you more productive at work if eaten whilst drinking a soda (a joint USDA/Pepsi Co study)
Fascinating. It's great how these companies with NO interest in what we buy produce such useful surveys for us..
</sarcasm>

But then if it was over on slashdot, well. Microsoft probably put them up to it..

Of course not, Brian.

You want Agent Orange for Kids in New Confusing Grape Flavor(TM).

(Does anybody else get that joke? I'm laughing, but I'm not convinced it's funny)

I have been using multple monitors for years. It has increased my productivity. One of the drawbacks of using a single monitor or a small monitor is that it limits one's multitasking capability to the size of the screen. Multiple screens solve this problem.

I have actually been working with a friend of mine to promote the use of multiple monitors through the sale of multi-monitor video cards. If interested, check out <a href="www.bqei.com">www.bqei.com</a>.
