I'll settle this...

Stuart and John seem to be having an argument over this comment in which Aydika signed her name as “Not his girlfriend anymore.”

As much as I like the idea of an argument about my current state of spousal freedom, I am not currently Aydika’s husband.

I am, however, her fiance.

This comes at the end of a couple months of serious thought on marriage. I asked assloads of people what they thought about marriage. People who were happily married, people who were unhappily married, people who have been once, twice, and thrice divorced…

And I got a lot of feedback.

It was a weird decision for me because I had never previously considered myself to be the marrying type, but this one just seems so obvious. We work well together. We want many of the same things. We even argue well.

Right now, we’ve tentatively chosen Hawaii for our wedding because it’s the halfway point between Japan and the states. If you’re interested in going, then consider yourself invited :) We don’t know when it will be yet, though.

Anyway, I have to run – I’m in Dallas for a team meeting, and we’re getting together in twelve minutes to talk about something or other, and I’m, like, supposed to be there ‘n stuff because I’m, like, part of the team or something.

So I’ll leave you with a photo of us on the night we got engaged (looking at this photo, I think it’s obvious that Aydika’s getting the better end of the deal, but at this point in my life, I’m willing to settle)…

Us_engaged

She’s beautiful, talented, witty, ambitious, and, as Joe Stagner put it after meeting her, “Smart as a whip.”

Yeah. I’m a happy little bastard.

Congrats Rory & Aydika! As a recently engaged developer, let me part this bit of wisdom upon you...seem interested and give your ideas about the wedding, but remember this, they will be ignored polietly as in "well, I was thinking X". Your one and only task is to make sure you show up sober, ohh who am I kidding, thats your best mans job...you just gotta make sure you have a best man to make sure you get there. That is all. Again congrats!

Well, I guess that's cool and everything... so... congratulations or whatever, I guess... but if you would have actually gotten married, I would have been *right*. And is it really so much to ask? Simply to be right? I mean, really, would it have killed you to get married??

I'm married to a smart, beautiful girl myself: it's great. :)

We got married in Hawaii, too, and it was totally awesome. With permission, we ripped off a friend's wedding (same hotel, same photographer, same food) because it was one of the best weddings we'd ever been to. Ours was just as good. If you want info about where and how we did it, you know where to reach me.

Marriage and Hawaii: both highly recommended.

Michael -

"did all this start because you blogged about the missed opportunity at the pool?"

Nope - that was just me having fun with an old memory. It was one of those times when the words just poured out of my head and I couldn't really stop them.

At the time I wrote that post, I honestly had *no* idea that she and I were going to be dating, let alone getting engaged.

I'm as surprised as anybody :)

Congratulations to both of you. I'll avoid to usual "When are you going to have kids" question because I hated that during my wedding. I'll also avoid the obvious "Have you ever paid for sex? You're about to start." joke.

Technically you should have your wedding on Midway Island if you want to be 1/2 way between the states and Japan.

<-- can't wait to see how an OCD handles eating poi with his fingers on his honeymoon. You gotta film that. ;)

Um...wow. Thank you everyone!

With regard to the OCD remark, I'd like to inform you all that Rory tossed his sandals aside after our second day in Fiji and did not don a pair of shoes until we left. He went barefoot. Everywhere. Restaraunts, shops, public restrooms, beach walks, a wedding we attended, everywhere.

Scott, we intend to video tape absolutley *everything* and edit nothing, except perhaps to boost the volume so it rings in loud and clear on all your speakers at work.

And by the way, whips are incredibly smart.
