The two stupidest SmartPhone apps *ever*

Too tired to write a big post. Heart palpitations all night, leading into an episode of The Blindness this morning. Argh. Blah. Very glad I’m seeing my neurologist tomorrow (still presented at Code Camp today, though, so I’m patting myself on the back for that :)).

Anyway, when I’m exhausted and feeling crappy like this, I spend a lot of time on the internets.

Tonight I was looking for some new, exciting, innovating applications for my phone.

Instead, I found these:

1) Stupidest SmartPhone application in the universe #1

2) Stupidest SmartPhone application in the universe #2

Shame. On. You.

Whoever you are.

ok, I can sort of see no1 being used... in fact, is that a 'real' flame being held in the MSDN Events graphic on your blog Rory?

But no2? What the...? What is that supposed to do?

1) Can you light a cigarette with that? Not that I smoke... -- That must be the reason why you're not allowed to use your cell phone at gas stations.

2) My guess is you load up this program and then use your mobile / PocketPC to smash the mosquitos. Or does it use ultra sound to keep them away? That will work really well on a cell phone that has a speaker with 20kHz max. Or maybe it plays annoying ring tones to scare them off!

Hmmm. 275 downloads at 2.5 dollars a pop. And I've got some applications that are at least as stupid. And no shame.

(sound of Handango Partner application form being filled in....)

I'll get started on the next iteration of stupid apps if it can pull in that kind of money. The new killer app is one that makes the worst apps, it will make the developer lots of money as can be seen with the 275 downloads @ $2.50 a piece!

The first one is just plain stupid. Might be nice for kids to use though.

The second one could be accomplished by sending certain noise frequencies into the air to scare away.... Ahh who I am kidding that is just stupid too.

Have you had an echocardiogram to rule out Mitral Valve Prolapse?

I don't think downloads = number of people who paid for the app when there is a trial available :)

The pricing is clever though. Even though it's useless, what's 2 dollars?

Wow! Fantastic! I can use the lighter at the next U2 concert and not have to worry about burning th e place down. Perhaps the radiation though might kill us all though.

$2.50?! This programming thing is a great racket!

Here, I'll sell you a pile of my crap for *only* $1.00. It may be cheap, but you still bought a pile of crap, albeit *my* crap.

I could go into a rant including supply, demand, and pricing changes of my crap, but since I am a lady of breeding and character I will so not go there.

Ammiss: You forgot the small print; add some fine detail that insists the user hands over some money on a regular basis :-)

How many people here even care that Rory is slowly dying? Hey, son, you gotta get your health in check. You're going blind on a routine basis and the heart thing just sounds like pure trouble. I feel bad for ya' kid. Let us know when you finally have a diagnosis other than "crazy French kid that loves the fit of hospital gowns".

the first app isn't stupid at all. I don't smoke so I never have a lighter to hold up (as a joke, of course) so I was going to make an app like this for my Audiovox SMT 5600 but it would have taken much more than $2.50 of my labor.
