.NET Rocks - I don't think I sucked!

Looks like my .NET Rocks show is up.

I'm about 12 minutes and 45 seconds (approximately) into it, and not nearly as horrified as I expected to be.

I was terribly nervous that night (a little nervous now, too (OK - I'm shaking :)), but I think I did better than I thought I did that night. I wasn't at my best, or even my OKest, but I did all right (if I do say so for myself).

The main issues:

- I did the interview from my cell phone, and the quality isn't so hot. I would have used a landline, but... I don't have one.

- I said "like" way too many times. I didn't realize I said that word so often. I'm enrolling in a 12-step program to cut down as soon as possible.

- I talked too fast. If I talked slower, and said "like" a few thousand less times, I'd have been more comprehensible.

- I was nervous. I'm surprised I didn't wet my pants.

Aside from that, I'm pretty happy. I really thought that I had "blown it," but I'm feeling much better now, and I feel like I learned quite a bit.

So don't just sit there with your tongue lying slack out of your mouth like that - go listen to the show, damn it!

And, I'd like to thank Carl and Mark (Mark - where's your web home nowadays?) for having me on the show. It was a cool, cool experience that I didn't think I would ever get to have. I'm still reeling and wondering how in the hell I ever got on...

You didn't suck at all, infact it inspired me to go back in time through your blog and read some more posts.

I just loved the WinFS piece and had to find it and forward the link to those in my team who just haven't got into reading blogs.

Rory! awww shucks. Thanks for the mention. You are not talking to fast. And I don't notice a proliferation of "like like like". I used to have the "y'know" tic, myself. Sounds great so far.

"Rory! awww shucks. Thanks for the mention."

It almost didn't happen. I was so nervous that I thought all the names in my head were going to jump ship and swim for safety. I'm glad I was even able to remember any of my friends' names, because I had certainly already forgotten my own :)

I think doing interviews like that automatically takes about 40 IQ points off the top for the duration of the show. I felt *really* dumb while the thing was going on :) But that's all right. These things happen...

Rory-
I still haven't listened to my Sys-Con Radio interview from PDC. It was atrociuos! Apparently, these things just get better with time and experience. I got to listen to 2/3 of your show. What I heard sounded great.

You came across good Rory. You did talk alittle fast in the beginning but you slowed down after that. Not to sound like a teacher in public speaking class but...you articulate your thoughs very well :)

Good job dude.

Thank you *very* much :) It might seem like I'm fishing for compliments, but I really have been a little unsure of myself regarding this whole .NET Rocks thing, so it's nice to hear that I *didn't* come off like a total jack-ass.

I was sooooo nervous that night. After the show, I sat down, stared at the phone I had used for the interview, and drank myself silly :)

I had been a .NET Rocks fan for so long, but had never expected to be on it. When the moment finally came, I felt like I was proposing marriage, or negotiating the release of hostages. I think that any future interviews (should there be any) will be *much* more relaxed ;)

I have been listening to the .Net Show for a while. The one they did with Chris Sells was pretty damn good.

What really comes accross in the show is he knowledge of the hosts, they are not some dudes who just decided to put on a radio show. They are coders first radio hosts second.
I was at the NY .Net Users group when Carl Franklin gave a talk about sockets, He knows his stuff but also makes it entertaining.

Its cool to know that we got some good personalities in this industry.
