I hope you liked my .NET Rocks show, 'cause...

Whether you liked my presence on .NET Rocks or not, you should probably start getting used to it.

I'm heading out to Connecticut this Thursday to co-host the first live .NET Rocks show. Carl and I agreed that the best way to do it would be to broadcast from the same zip code. We're hoping that being in the same room as the show airs might help us avoid disaster, but as Carl said in the announcement on his blog, "We may fall flat on our face, but we're gonna give it the old college try."

I happen to be a college dropout, so I'm probably going to shoot for something different than "the old college try," but rest assured that I'm going to do my best to BRING .NET ROCKS DOWN IN FLAMES help do a good show that you'll all enjoy.

I've never been to Connecticut, and have spent very little time on the east coast in general, but, and I say this from the bottom of my heart, I'm really looking forward to MY TESTICLES FREEZING SOLID IN UNDER FIVE MINUTES IN THE NEW ENGLAND WINTER taking in the old-country beauty of the area.

Anyway, I'm excited as Michael Jackson at his studio on "Bring Your Children to Work" day. I think this is going to be a lot of fun.

Provided everything goes well, I'll be moving to the east coast to co-host the show on a regular basis.

So, keep yer eyes peeled for updates. As of right now, the show is scheduled to run on Friday afternoon from 12-2PM EST (9-11AM PST). The url for the broadcast is http://perseus.franklins.net/dnr.asx, and you'll need Windows Media Player to be able to tune it.

Oh great. Now you and Carl will sit around are tell each other how cool you are! :-) Seriously, Carl Frankin IS the coolest cat on the East Coast!

Speaking of the East Coast, does this mean you'll be spending time in Vermont???? Bring those frozen testicles up this way, and bring Cool Carl with you!

Congrats on the .NET Rocks gig. I'll be tuning in, most definitely.

Congrats dude. I think you will find the north east a little chilly this time of year. I looked at the thermostat this morning and it said 10.0.

So are you moving out to the east cost just for the show, or do you have some other work in the area?

Hey, it's not that cold here...OK, well it is. But the warmth of the people of New England will...well, never mind that too. Seriously, I'm really pleased to hear that you'll be a regular fixture on .NET rocks. I'm a big fan of the blog. You and Carl should do some kind of Nerds Dinner/Drinkin' thing while you're out here! I'd gladly make the trip from RI to New London.

Whoa, Connecticut? On purpose? I've spent the last 31 years here and the last 18 months trying to get to get out :)

If all goes well, then yes. Not moving *quite* yet, but it's looking like a very real prospect :)

It crossed my mind :) I haven't spent much time on the east coast, so it'd be fun to check out some of the neighboring regions...

"Whoa, Connecticut? On purpose?"

A couple years ago, I probably would have been thinking the same thing.

Then again, a couple years ago, I was just coming out of college, starting a career, and having a great time.

But, between then and now, I've gotten a *little* tired of the city I grew up in, and wouldn't mind getting out.

Plus, Portland was just rated the sixth most stressful city in the US, so New London is suddenly sounding pretty sweet...

Moving just for the show, but I'm going to be looking for work while I'm out there.

I'm currently living a pretty lean life in order to build up my savings so that the transplant doesn't kill me :)

Awesome man - Congrats. I really look forward to hearing your first show. Nothing wrong with the east coast - I'm as east and you can get and still be in N. America. Of course on days like today (blizzard outside) I wouldn't mind heading South. Good luck with it all.

If you do move I would assume that would mean you both. So what school is Kori going to transfer too? And what does she think of the move? Good, bad, ecstatic, indifferent? We have your slant on it, so see if you can get Kori to post her thoughts. I'd like to see what your other half think of the potential move too.

Definitely :)

I am, unforutnately, going to miss the ASP.NET Roadshow, but I gotta do what I gotta do.

I wouldn't miss the dinner, though - I live for that sort of thing...

Rory - That's true: I'm biased as I live within 20 minutes of where I went to elementary school... obviously I'm extremely bored with my area. But then again, I'm about 50-60 minutes west of New London... anyway, I do think you'll enjoy it out here - it's an experience to say the least!

If I lived closer to New London and you were in Redmond I'd offer a trade :)

Congrats Rory, and looks like you'll be heading on just in time to get delayed thanks to 2 nasty snowstorms on the way. Do you think someone might be telling you something?

New London is nowhere near NYC (closer to New Providence, RI), but I'll have to figure out a way to get out there.

Congrats, Rory! I'll be looking forward to the next show.

In the mean-time some food for thought: Could there be a more appropriate city to host the East Coast version of the Nerd Dinner than Portland (Maine, that is)? Think of it! you can *still* have the "Portland Nerd Dinner" on the East Coast. Brilliant! According to Expedia, Portland is a mere 3.5 hours from New London, and, coincidentally, only two hours away from where I live.

Think about it.

Hey Rory

I hope you have enough time for a Nerd Dinner while in CT. I will definitely go!

Also, are you looking for contract work or full-time employment?

I have no intention whatsoever of giving up my Nerd Dinner habit :) Jim Blizzard learned me good on that one.

"Also, are you looking for contract work or full-time employment?"

I'm going to be looking for contract work. Fraught with peril though it may be, yo-ho-ho, it's the contractor's life for me... :)

Rory that's really cool.

If you do move out here and start up an east coast nerd dinner I just may have to drive down from Montreal once in a while to attend...

Er, as per MapQuest, I'm looking at:
6 hours, 10 minutes Total Est. Distance: 385.78 miles

I guess it's have to be a weekend thing then... Cool.
