Empty your brain - You need to remember two important things

There are two (2) things going on this week that require your brain's ability to process information relating to time and space. I don't claim that this is an exhaustive list of all the things requiring your brain in this capacity, but you can rest assured that these are the most important.

Thing to remember #1

If you're in Portland, OR, then remember to come out to tomorrow night's nerd dinner. For time and place, check out Jim Blizzard's site.

For people whose schedules are free, this event is compulsory. Although nobody would ever force you to come, we would certainly engage in what we like to call "reverse volunteering."

Thing to remember #2

As long as crappy weather doesn't keep me away, I'm going to be in New London, Connecticut this Friday to do the first live .NET Rocks show with Carl Franklin.

In addition to the already kick-ass guest list of Bill Vaughn and Peter Blackburn, Dan Appleman is going to be on the show as well. I'm already having fanboy palpitations, but I'm going to try to keep it toned-down a little for the show so that I don't just constantly vomit compliments at everybody. Maybe I'll relax with a nice dose of heroin before we go live. Nothing calms the nerves like a little brownstone (note to my parents in case they're reading this: Don't worry - I only shoot up when I get nervous).

Also, if you're the kind of person who is very self-congratulatory about writing letters to state representatives to complain about various petty problems that are only of interest to you (like education, health care, and the environment), then you ought to grab a copy of Skype so that you can "call in" to the show and bother the guests. When Carl says that the show is going to be "live," he doesn't mean that he's going to clip wires onto its nipples, raise it to the top of the castle, cook it with lightning, and hope it starts breathing on its own accord. Rather, he means that we're going to broadcast the show as it happens, which means that you're going to have the opportunity to speak to some of the most intelligent people in the industry (or to the guests if that's your kind of thing).

So head over to Carl's blog and check out the details. The schedule for the show is here (pay attention to time zone stuff), and an early notice about Skype is here. Carl will post more about Skype once we're closer to the show's date.

If you can't catch the show live, it will still be posted like all the other episodes, but it ought to be more fun to tune in while it's happening.

And that is all for now, mes chers amis.

No Name -

I'm just having fun.

Nothing wrong with that.

*Do* I think I'm funny? Sometimes, yeah. Not always, but sometimes.

Is there something wrong with that? Don't some people consider themselves to be good coders/artists/lawyers/this/that? Can't a person be funny and have a good time with it?

Anyway, nobody's forcing you to read this stuff. I'd rather have one less reader than think that this is torture for somebody.

Rory, you wasted 1,233 bytes of precious bandwidth and cache space on my computer by acknowledging that idiot, not to mention a few seconds I'll never see again. Please ignore them henceforth. You're funny enough. Not everyone will think so. Their loss.

Merci.

It's a bad habit, but it's tough for me not to respond when I feel someone's being unduly harsh.

There are times, believe me, when people are absolutely right about ditching me and talking trash, but this wasn't one of them (I don't think).

Anyway, what the previous commenter did to my morale, you just fixed, so thank you very much :)

Rory, there aren't enough crazy bastards like you to go around. I am currently wiping coffee off my monitor, as I it came out of my nose as I was reading your blog(s). How can someone not find "reverse volunteering" funny? And why is it so bad to love yourself? I love myself once, maybe twice a day...
