I knew WinFS was going to be awesome, but it's even awesomer than I expected.
It isn't just going to make searches instantaneous.
You're going to be able to easily create your own metadata schemas that can be tied into the shell.
Think about it like this: You have your collection of porn, and you want to be able to search based on how dirty it is. You want to create a structure for your metadata that will have categories like this:
1. Threesomes
2. Really unacceptable
3. Wet/dry vac required for aftermath
4. Room used for porn shoot had to be burned to the ground afterwards
You are going to be able to do this. And, it's going to be easy.
Then, when you go to search for your files using explorer, you can actually configure it so that you will see the "dirty" category alongside the usual categories like creation date and size. The possibilities here are mind boggling. I picture writing additions to the blogging software I use that will be able to comb certain folders for files of certain types and include them automatically in my posts. Sure, you can do this now, but it's going to be slick.
Slick. slick, slick.
I think that the next release of Windows is all about making porn easier to manage, and "Longhorn" certainly is an appropriate name given this noble goal.
