Two announcements

Announcement #1

Looks like Carl has posted the first in a series of How-To videos that we're doing together.

This first video is a basic VB.NET OO concepts tutorial, but the plan is to have VB.NET and C# videos once we figure out the process. There are, of course, going to be some rough spots as we get started, but overall we're pretty pleased with the result of our first try (especially given that we put it together at about 2:00 AM (Carl came into the office, got me out of bed, and said, "Hey! Want to do some training videos?")).

I'm really excited about this. This is the sort of thing I've been wanting to do for years, so it's pretty cool to get to be a part of it.

Announcement #2

I spent a few hours last week hunched over my tablet, learning how to do Flash animation. It cost me a lot of time that could have been spent blogging, but I think it was worth it.

I'll leave you to ponder what this means for the world.

That is an EXTRA scary concept. Flash is pretty fun though once you get it started. I have never made anything fun, just the normal corporate drivel like this http://www.pmctoledo.com/Presentation.aspx

Heh, I know what this means. It means stomping kittens and ugly fury things singing about the moon. I'm sure it will be rather good.

Mushing your two announcements together in somebody-had-to-do-it kinda way, I see that the tutorials are actually Flash movies generated with Camtasia screen recorder software. This is pretty neat-o, because it guarantees that

1) Anyone with a Flash-enabled browser can view the toots, and

2) Since you can only record the screen (right?), we aren't subjected to gratuitous video images of Carl and Rory looking like they do at 2 AM.

A Rory stick-figure ani in the middle of a tutorial sure would be a treat!

Do you want to know the first thing that went through my mind that said Carl woke you up at 2:00AM to make a movie :) hehe seriously though I'm looking forward to checking some of these videos out. I think there is a lot of videos out there (my company just spent $2k on some garbage ones) and you really have no idea what the quality is and I would definatly recommend some videos from you guys... at the very least they would be very entertaining :)

Dude, where's the pr0n? Movies created at 2am by two men in front of a computer have to include at least a little pr0n.

If not pr0n, at least choose more interesting things to model if you're going to explain OOP. We've all seen the Person example. What we need is a thorough discussion of inheritence and the Open/Closed principle using different kinds of people. Hookers. Vagrants. Police officers. Double-dispatch to model their interactions. You dig?
