RSS for Charity - Future unknown...

If you've been using RSS for Charity, then you might experience a disruption of service over the next couple days.

I've been occupied with getting my east coast life started, and I seem to have missed the news that Amazon is phasing out some older portions of its web services offerings.

I don't know yet if RSS4C is running against the bits that are being removed, and I don't have time right now to figure it out, so I guess we'll all learn together on the 16th.

If it turns out that the API I've coded against is getting ousted, then it's possible that I might decommission RSS4C. It was a fun experiment, but it doesn't bring in much dough considering the work that went into it (although many of you have kicked ass in making sure that it generated something).

Plus, I don't think RSS is a good format for shopping. I've done a lot of thinking about it, and, as fun as it was to create, it just isn't as useful as it could have been.

Anyway, I have other plans for charity. Now I just need time...

By the way, if I haven't already linked to my girlfriend tonight just because I miss her, now would be a good time.

I got an email today from Amazon (I tried pasting into your contact form but Send wasn't sending).

The bit that may particularly interest you if you haven't seen it is where they ask us to "replace all legacy calls to http://xml.amazon.com/onca/xml and
http://xml.amazon.com/onca/xml2 with calls to
http://xml.amazon.com/onca/xml3. If you are using SOAP, please download our
version 3.0 WSDL from
http://soap.amazon.com/schemas3/AmazonWebServices.wsdl and regenerate your
client application code."

That might help. If it's just a matter of using the updated version rather than of the relevant API having actually been removed, of course.

Kevin -

Thanks - that definitely clears it up.

I can definitely fix it, then. Just a matter of finding a few minutes to do it.

Probably this weekend.

"You might like to come on down to NYC..."

I don't need an excuse to come down :) I've been wanting to go since I arrived on the east coast.

I might even have enough funding by then to be able to buy a train ticket, in which case...

Well, I might just show. Makes it a lot easier, too, that it's on Friday night.

I mentioned it before, but you were busy and I was lazy.

Wishlist.

THAT would be workable as RSS.
hopefully Amazon have fixed that funky 'ten at a time' deal they had going on with their old style WSDL which caused me to just give up on the whole idea a few months back.
