What a deal!

I'm sitting with Jim in a Starbucks right now, doing a bit of work on our Joint Top Secret Mega Programming Project.

We're both hooked into the T-Mobile WiFi HotSpot, and while signing in, I saw an ad on the T-Mobile HotSpot page that was too funny not to share:

Unlimited access starts as low as $29.99 per month.

So, if I already have unlimited access, then why would I want to pay more? I mean, if “[u]nlimited access starts as low as $29.99 per month,” then what in the hell else can they give me if I spend more money?

Unlimited + 1?

That’s better then “YOUR AD HERE”, it also could aid creative accounts to right off an expense and at the same time claim a revenue for an ad placement.

- More bandwidth?
- Static IP?
- Allow Web Hosting?

"For $10.00 a month more, you receive through your internet connection a free stapled pig."

(seems like I always get these weird price/deal combos - for more money, get free)

Matt -

1. It's already unlimited.

2. It's a WiFi HotSpot - a static IP wouldn't do me any good

3. Again, it's a WiFi HotSpot - not exactly a good place to be hosting a web site.

Touche, but it would be cool if you could bring your home server in, hide it in the corner and setup your own server. However, what I meant for bandwidth, was up/down speed.

No way! You're coming to South Africa? Really? ... Which cities? I'd prefer it if you came to Johannesburg, but Pretoria is also good.

Hrm... Just checked the site and South Africa is not on the list. *sob* How could you lie to me like that? *sob*

:-P I guess I'll have to wait a few/many months/years before MS South Africa does something similar...

As fun as this conversation is, it just the price of commiting to a year. It costs more if you commit to less time.

Isn't this the same thing as bajillion (the largest number you can think of + 1) in your Colorado post?

For $29.99 / month, you get unlimiited access.
For $34.99 / month, you get infinity access.
For $39.99 / month, you get bajillion access.

I'd say it would be something like faster speed. 256/56 as opposed to 128/64 maybe?

Then again your wireless card might not even be able to keep up the speed with forty other people sharing the bandwith with you and end up being on dial up again.

"As low as" means that if you buy in bulk, you can get it for that price.

So if you buy a year of unlimited access and pay for it in one bulk payment, you can get it for $29.99 a month. If you buy 1 month at a time, you pay $34.99 plus a 1-time set-up fee of $99.99 or something.

I guess they need to specify "what" has no limit. In this case, they mean "time". Your time is unlimited.
You bandwidth, however, IS limited. But you can pay more for better bandwidth.
So, is that false advertising?

Ok, never mind all that. I'm guessing you weren't really looking for an explanation. Yes, that is a pretty funny ad.

But wait - you forgot to mention that it's a minimum 12 month contract, so they should really call it $358.88/year.
