Coming back soon...

You might have noticed I haven't been posting at all.

That's because I haven't been posting at all.

Vacation turned into my body taking advantage of downtime. I don't know how it senses time off, but I invariably get sick when I decide to go on any kind of a break. This time, I actually threw up, which was really exciting. I've been meaning to do a comic about it, but...

...that's not all that's been going on.

Preparing to move to Seattle has taken up more of my time than I expected. I've been going around and saying goodbye to people, making sure I've got everything I need, dealing with the relocation team. It sucks. Not because I'm going to move, but because I really, really, really, really, really, really, really hate moving. It's a prime example of meta-work (the work you have to do to get your real work done - meta-work is the most unrewarding kind of work in the universe).

So, yeah. I'm busy. And recovering from barfing all over the place. But I have a few posts written in my head that need to be typed and posted - I just haven't had the time to do it yet.

Once life settles down a little more, I expect to be back and posting. Until then, though, things will continue to be a little quiet around here.

Tah for now. I love you all as though you were my very own gender-ambiguous multi-headed sibling.

I'll probably be back early next week (or this weekend if I'm lucky).

I hate moving.

funny you should mention it rorwie, i was thinking the same thing. that'll teach me for working the week before i go.

my saturday is one line of people, beers here, cafes there. and those relo people - i swear they spend more time emailing than doing actual work. my poor inbox - it's never been so popular, my spam to real email ratio tipped to faviour real email - thats just not right.
what sort of price range do you want for you appartment? travel time? close X, y or Z? central city/ suburban? close to a pie shop?
which remind me - i need to bring cream/custard pies.....

>I hate moving.
sorry not with you there - i love it. the excitement. the unknown. the lack of sleep (my doctor told me to, quote "learn to knit"). telling the power/phone/insurance/internet companies i want to close my account with them - mwhahahaha!
and once i've moved - one bad ass shopping mission.

that rental car better be insured...

"haven't been posting"
Neither have I but that's no problem, I have zero visitors - which I find no problem, I'm happy typing every now and then.

"really hate moving"
I alternate between not minding and loving it. Earth is my home so I never really move, I just move the furniture around. Only thing that gets on my nerves a bit are these billions of people that feel free to crash in and stay.

I hope your move goes well and I know moving sucks.  You get rooted and it's just a plain pain in the ass.  At any rate...it's kind of cool to think that you'll be in that place we could see on Mt. Tabor when we were looking over at Mt. St. Helens.  It doesn't seem *terribly* far away to me...but then again, I'm not you.  If you need to talk, call me.

Yeah, the only thing worse than moving is living through a remodel. Having done the moving several times and the remodel only once, I know which one I don't want to do again.

If I ever build a house again I will *not* be living there during the process. I'm kinda wishing I'd just knocked the last bedroom down and forced myself to move out this time round. Damn me and my 'I don't want to destroy the *whole* house' theory.

Good luck with the move. There's a good indian restuarant not far from campus - hit up Jorgen Thelin for the name/address as my memory is exactly as it's always been. Then get friendly with the owner so when I'm next up there and we have indian food they'll give us a free stuff. I like free stuff. And Indian food. But not remodelling.

Rory,
I'd be flattered to be part of your 'very own gender-ambiguous multi-headed sibling'. I'd be one quantity of head among the multi.

I always get sick when on holiday too, usually because of the nature of the business we're in. I think it's to do with all the adrenalin pumping around our system when we're rushing to get things done/meet deadlines etc. You can have a whole team working crazy hours rushing to get a project out the door in the most difficult circumstances imaginable and nobody gets sick or managed to work through whatever colds are doing the rounds. Then you give everyone a couple of extra days off and EVERYONE gets sick for a week or more with the worst kind of flu.

And yeah, moving sucks! Always!

You've been going around saying good bye to others in the Portland area. But what about your MSAM (nee SST) team, or more specifically, the MSDN Events team, or more specifically, me? I must have missed it. Maybe there was a good bye there, but it was certainly quiet. I was hoping for a big Dorothy to Lion, Tinman and Scarecrow moment, but oh well.

The last team meeting was simply not the same without you - in work *or* play mode.

Enjoy the tornado.
